How can I make sure my app is secure? / How to set up two-step authentication, a PIN or face or fingerprint biometric authentication
We’ve made it easy to add extra layers of security to your Generate app.
You have three choices:
1. Set up two-step authentication
2. Add a PIN to your app
3. Use face or fingerprint biometrics from your smartphone to log in
If you don’t want to setup a two-factor authentication, a PIN or face or fingerprint biometrics to log in to the Generate app, you can continue logging in with your email address and password.
Two-step authentication
Two-step authentication adds an additional layer of security to your account, and an extra step to log in to your Generate account. As well as entering your password when you log in, you will be sent a TXT message with a unique code, which you will need to enter to verify your login details.
This will occur when both logging into the Generate app or online account via a computer.
How to set up two-factor authentication:
1. Log in to your Generate account (either from the app or computer)
2. Select ‘My Profile’ in the top right-hand menu under your initials.
3. Select ‘Security’
4. Select ‘Enable two-step authentication’ and follow the instructions to add your mobile number as recipient for the unique code.
PIN or biometric (face or fingerprint) authentication:
A PIN or biometric authentication can help add an extra layer of security to your app, while also making it easier for you to log in. Biometric authentication will require you to use either your fingerprint or the facial recognition technology to log in – this is only available on devices
that have these features already built in (e.g. a smartphone or tablet), and is device-specific, so will only work on the device that you set it up on.
NOTE: You can only set up biometric authentication AFTER setting up a PIN. You must set up both. Alternatively, it is possible to set up a PIN only.
If you set up face and fingerprint authentication or PIN, you won’t be prompted to enter a two-step authentication TXT code next time you log in to the app—that’ll only happen if you log in using your email and Generate password.
How to set up a PIN or biometric (face or fingerprint) authentication:
1. Log in to your Generate account (either from the app or computer)
2. Select ‘My Profile’ in the top right-hand menu under your initials.
3. Select ‘Security’
4. Toggle the ‘PIN’ or ‘Biometric authentication’ toggle to set these up and follow the prompted instructions.
